A Getaway Full of Captivating Coastal Walks

Share

Local Attractions a Mere Walk From Smiths Beach Resort.

An enviable location on the Western Australian coast leaves visitors with another lesser-known advantage… the ability to step directly onto the 125km Cape to Cape Track.

The track runs the entire length of the Margaret River Region and while keen hikers might have the goal of completing it from end to end, even a short walk from Smiths Beach Resort can see you exploring stunning granite outcrops, vibrant rockpools, geological marvels and, incredible white sand beaches.  And with these attractions so close to your accommodation, it makes for an easy return to the resort for a well-earnt drink.

1. South from Smiths Beach Resort

Expect rocky conditions, uneven footing and steep inclines. There are some permanent bench seats installed along the way to stop and enjoy the view.

Smiths Beach to the Natural Aquarium (20 minutes)

This calm rockpool is protected from the surrounding ocean conditions and will always be a vibrant shade of turquoise even on the cloudiest of days.

You can enjoy the view from the elevation of the track or hike down the dry creek bed for a swim, but the best way to experience this natural phenomenon is by putting your head under the water. Fish, sea creatures, coral and grasses have made their home in the protected waters and snorkelling along the top opens a beautiful underwater world for you to enjoy.

Smiths Beach to Canal Rocks (45 minutes)

Exit the trail at Canal Rocks Road and head south where giant granite rocks rise out of the ocean and waves dramatically crash into them.

It is hard to believe that this geological wonder started forming 7-million years ago and that erosion has left what we now call Canal Rocks and the local Aboriginal people call Winjee Sam.

A boardwalk and walk bridge provide the perfect vantage point to view all the action which is especially stunning at sunset as the sun’s last rays slip behind the natural forms.

Smiths Beach to Injidup Natural Spa (1 hour)

A little bit further along the track will take you to the Injidup Natural Spa. Another incredible rockpool with a very different secret. A fissure in the surrounding rocks transforms the ocean’s natural wave patterns into fizzy spa-like water as you leisurely wait in the shallows.

2. North of Smiths Beach

Expect mostly sandy conditions on the beach before rocky and uneven paths closer to Yallingup.

Yallingup Town (1 hour 20 minutes)

Follow the shoreline north along Smiths Beach, past the headland to the small township of Yallingup. Your first stop is at the small carpark with a view over the Yallingup Reef and Lagoon where you can watch surfers take on this notorious surf break.

Head down to the lagoon for a swim in its protected waters or make your way to the main street where a small café is located on the corner near the roundabout selling coffee, juices or lunch.
